SSYRA

The Sunshine State Young Readers Award (SSYRA) Program is a statewide reading motivational program for students in grades Kindergarten through 8. The purpose of the SSYRA Program is to encourage students to read independently for pleasure and to read books that are on, above, and below their reading level in order to improve their reading fluency.

myLearning Course

Join the SSYRA myLearning course by clicking the link below! Students in grades 3-8 must complete the quiz in the myLearning course after reading the book to receive credit. Students in grades K-2 have a list of choices they can choose from. The list is available in the myLearning course.

Digital Library

The Digital Library is provided by Pasco County Libraries. To use the Digital Library, you can click on any of the external links below. Unfortunately, not all books are available digitally through Pasco County Libraries. You MUST have a library card in order to use the virtual library, and it MUST be an Adult library card (16+). Your parent or guardian can create a free online account with Pasco County Libraries by clicking here and you can access all these books using this account with their permission. The eLibrary is not available for child library cards.

Already have a library card? Go to the myLearning course, go to Modules, Click any book list under the "Virtual Library" group, click "Login", and enter your library card number.

SSYRA Jr. Choice Board

After reading one of the 15 SSYRA Jr. books, you must complete one of the following activities to show what you've learned. Turn your finished activity into your homeroom teacher or upload a photo to the dropbox on myLearning.

 

  • Create a comic strip, at least 3 boxes, to show the most important parts of the story. TEMPLATE: Click Here
  • Create a bookmark to show the most important parts of the story.
  • Create a foldable to explain the beginning, middle, and end of the story.
  • Create a newspaper article that includes a drawing of your favorite part of the story. TEMPLATE: Click Here
  • Write a letter to a classmate or teacher explaining the problem and solution of the story.
  • Fill in a story map with the title, characters, setting, problem, and solution. TEMPLATE: Click Here

2nd Grade Only may complete the quiz through Microsoft Forms. Make sure that you log in with your student number and password so your name is recorded!
