Arrival & Dismissal Procedures

Arrival/Breakfast: Skybrooke K-8's school hours are 9:40am-4:00pm. Adult supervision on our campus begins no earlier than 9:20am. Do not release your child onto our campus before 9:20am. Car, bus and school gate doors will open no earlier than 9:20am to allow students to purchase breakfast and walk to their classrooms. Students that arrive after 9:40am must enter through the front office before going to class. Elementary students that are tardy must be walked into the office by a parent/guardian for a tardy slip.

Breakfast is no longer free. If your child is purchasing breakfast, Elementary students will grab breakfast off our breakfast carts before going to their classrooms. Middle school students will walk through the cafeteria line to get breakfast each morning. Click HERE to see menus and prices.

Dismissal: Students will be dismissed to the bus, car, or Hiker/Biker beginning at 4:00pm. Our school staff will assist with dismissal before leaving for home each day. Students may not be picked up late daily. After 3 late pick-ups that occur after 4:15pm, a conference will be arranged with administration to assist with alternate pick-up plans.

Early dismissals are disruptive to the learning environment. We will not release students for early dismissal after 3:15 pm. To maximize student learning and progress, all students need to be present from 9:40am-4:00pm each day. Attendance is critical for the success of your child.

Change of Dismissal – Elementary ONLY: Keeping your child’s dismissal plans consistent is important.

For the safety of your child, our staff works together to create transportation lists to ensure that your child is at the appropriate dismissal location each day. If you must change your child’s dismissal method, this must be communicated through the “Change of Dismissal” button on our school website before 3:00pm each day.

Release of students: Students will only be released to a parent/guardian or person listed on your enrollment emergency contact card in your myStudent Parent Portal. For the safety of the child, the person who is picking up the child must be prepared to show proof of his/her identity with a photo ID. Students will only be released from the classroom once you arrive at the school site.

Car Line Information

If you choose to drop off and pick up your child each day, you must use our car loop and have an up-to-date designated car tag for this school year only. All visitors must go directly to our front office with an ID and on the emergency card to check out, for the safety of all students we will not allow walk-up pick-ups.

Expectations:

  • Please follow the flow of traffic for the safety of ALL students.
  • Florida law prohibits using a handheld cell phone or other wireless communication device while operating a motor vehicle. This includes texting, emailing, or using other non-voice communication methods. Handheld phone use is prohibited in school crossing areas, school zones, and active work zones, with penalties of $60 and three points on the license.
  • U-turns are not permitted on the main road in front of our campus.
  • Stopping to drop students off on the main road or in the parking lot is not permitted.
  • Parking along the public road sidewalks, in front of driveways or on the grass is not permitted per the county and deed restriction guidelines within our Skybrooke K-8 community. Together, let’s keep our neighborhood beautiful!
  • Our staff will not strap or unstrap your child’s car seat or seatbelt for liability reasons.

Arrival:

  • Please follow the directions of our car line staff when entering the car line at arrival.
  • Our staff will open the car door to transfer your child out of the car and on to the sidewalk to enter our campus. There is no need to get out of your car.
  • Remind your child to be ready with his/her backpack and lunch box to exit the car quickly and safely when the door is opened.
  • Our car loop will close at 9:40am each day. At that time, you must park and walk your child into the front office for a tardy slip.

Dismissal:

  • When arriving in our car line, please hang your car tag from your rear-view mirror and follow the directions of our car loop staff.
  • A designated staff member will enter your student's name into a digital system. Staff inside will prompt your student to go to the pole number you will end up at.
  • Our staff will open the door and safely transition your child into the car.
  • We will load all students into the passenger side door, as it is closest to the sidewalk and building. We cannot buckle seatbelts or car seats, so please begin practicing with your child to do this independently.
  • Once your child is in the car, please pull down your car tag from the rearview mirror. This signals our staff that your child is loaded in the car and ready to go.
  • If your child is not ready at his/her designated pole when traffic is ready to move, you will be directed to a different loading zone to receive your child.

Car Tags: Each family can receive TWO car tags at Open House. Families that use the car loop and/or Hiker/Biker route to school must have a car tag for identification purposes.

VPK and Students in our SBC Program: Students in our Skybrooke VPK and SBC programs will be provided with a back entrance drop-off and pick-up location for arrival and dismissal. Parents should enter the carline as normal and will follow signs off of the track to be directed to their alternate location. You may still say in the car to drop-off and pick up your child. Parents/guardians picking up a VPK or SBC child must have a designated car tag to show to our staff before any child is released. Only parents/guardians and emergency contact designees listed in myStudent with a designated car tag will be allowed to pick up a child from our VPK and SBC program.

Hiker/Biker Information

Hiker/Biker: Safety is our priority for all students and staff at Skybrooke K-8. We require your permission if you would like your child to “GO” off campus without a parent/guardian meeting your child at the elementary Hiker/Biker pick-up location each day. We must have a signed permission form in our front office to place a GREEN GO tag on your child’s backpack. This permission form will be at our Open House events. If you missed our events, visit our front office if you give your child permission to “GO” off campus without an adult.

Our Hiker/Biker Process:

  • A SBK8 staff member is designated to walk each grade level group of Hiker/Bikers to the designated Hiker/Biker pick-up location at dismissal each day.
  • If your child has been given a GREEN hiker/biker tag, on his/her backpack, you have signed this authorization form for your child to “GO” and walk/bike home without an adult.
  • If your child has an ORANGE hiker/biker tag on his/her backpack, your child will NOT be released until a SBK8 staff member sees an adult with the correct corresponding car tag with your child’s last name and grade level noted.
  • An ORANGE hiker/biker tag for a primary student may also mean that you have given permission for your student in early grades to walk or bike home with an older sibling. This must be communicated with your child’s teacher. Our staff will make sure siblings are connected prior to being released for dismissal.

Our Expectations:

  • If you plan to meet your child at dismissal, please wait patiently at the designated Hiker/Biker pick-up area on our campus. Our staff will safely transfer every ORANGE tagged child, one by one.
  • If you would like to give permission for your child to walk or bike home without supervision, this authorization form must be signed, dated, and returned to your child’s teacher.
  • The SBK8 campus ends at the end of the sidewalk that leads to Skybrooke Blvd. We expect all Hikers and Bikers to walk or bike home right away after dismissal. Supervision on SBK8 campus will end no later than 4:15pm. All students that are not picked up will return to the front office for pick-up.
  • SBK8 is not liable or responsible for any bicycles that are stored inside our campus bike rack. Our bike racks are not locked. Please keep this in mind if your child chooses to store his bicycle in our campus bike racks.
  • Students riding bikes or scooters must walk their bike/scooter to the end of the school campus sidewalk and wear a helmet before riding their bike/scooter.

School Bus

The bus loop is dedicated to our school buses and daycare vans. Our staff is available to load and unload children at the bus loop in the morning and afternoon. Bus passes will be ready to view on your myStudent Parent Portal before the first day of school. Day care vans also use our bus loop for arrival and dismissal.

PLACE

PLACE parents may use the bus loop for drop off and pick up between 6:30am-9:00am and/or 4:30-6:00pm. Parents must walk in to sign their child in to the PLACE program at arrival and sign out at dismissal. For more information regarding PLACE, click here.
